The Public Health Training Hub Program
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health assembles statewide & regional public health professional associations, academic partners, and other training providers.
The Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health in their Blueprint for Public Health Excellence report recommended a workforce standard for local public health with the goal of ensuring consistency and competency in the hiring of public health professionals and in the placement of board members across municipalities. The Special Commission also underscored the need to have a diverse and representative workforce. The Office of Local and Regional Health provides funding to increase, diversify, and strengthen the local public health workforce.
The goal of this interdisciplinary collaboration is to promote & advance the training and continuing education offerings for local public health staff and board of health members, in order to increase their skills and competency in key functional areas.

Meet The Trainers
“The Baystate Training Hub is going to be the future of public health in Massachusetts. We are privileged to be given the opportunity to help guide public health professionals through the sometimes choppy waters of inspectional services.
We get to be trainers, guides, support staff, and friends all at the same time, and I get to work with wonderful people throughout the state.”

“The Training Hub, to me, represents Confidence for Local Public Health Professionals. As I see it at the Bay State Public Health Hub, our goal is to ensure that public health professionals may effortlessly navigate to our hub, where we offer equitable assistance and professional development.
We all start somewhere yet, without the confidence you gain through training and experience a Public Health professional may steer themselves into some murky waters. Completing a standard public health competencies training program will allow you to gather the knowledge required to serve your community to the best of your ability."
Joshua Montella "Monte"

Joshua navigated into the public health profession when he discovered an entry-level opportunity to serve his lifelong community of New Bedford.

Over the next decade, Joshua pushed to gain as much knowledge and experience in environmental health as possible. Most recently, Joshua acquired invaluable exposure to Title 5 & wastewater competencies while serving the community of Swansea before joining the Bay State Public Health Training Hub Team.
